Crochet this beautiful Fluff Cushion by guest designer Lindsey Newns of @lottieandalbert, Lindsey is a crochet designer, craft YouTuber and commissioning editor for Mollie Makes magazine and owner of Curate Crochet Boxes. In this blog we will show you how to create a fluffy cushion using the crochet loop stitch you’ll find a step by step guide and an assisting tutorial to help you learn this stitch. It looks tricky at first but once you get into a good rhythm I guarantee you’ll love it! Once you have made the panel, the loop stitches are cut and then lightly brushed to create the fun texture – it’s much easier than it looks!

Gauge
To check your cushion will come out at the correct size (especially if you are using a different yarn) you may want to make a test swatch first to check your gauge. If your swatch is larger than my measurements, go down a hook size; if your swatch is smaller, go up a hook size.

Pattern notes
- Pattern is written in UK terms but switchable to US crochet terms above.
- The cushion is made in two panels, which can either be crocheted or sewn together.
- Loop stitches are formed on the ‘back’ of the work and so the front panel of the cushion will have the loop stitches all on one side
- Turning chain does not count as a stitch throughout
- I used my hand as a guide to determine the height of a loop stitch, making each one three fingers or around 5cm high
How to make a loop stitch
To form a loop stitch, wrap your yarn from front to back over the index finger of your yarn hand. Insert hook into stitch, and bring the yarn under the hook, keeping your finger in place, now hook the strand of yarn from behind your index finger (1), and draw the loop through the stitch still keeping your finger in place (2). You should now have two loops on your hook, and a loop of yarn wrapped around your index finger (3). Gently pull the yarn until you have your desired loop length. Yarn over hook as normal, and pull through both loops on hook (4). Your loop stitch is now formed and you can remove your finger.

The Fluff Cushion Pattern
Cushion Front:
Start by loosely chaining 36 sts.

You are viewing this pattern in UK terms.
Row 1: double crochet in 2nd chain from hook, and in each stitch along. Turn. (35 sts)

Using your scissors, separate out each row of loop stitches and cut them, a row at a time. Once you have cut the loops, give the yarn a gentle brush. The more you brush, the fluffier it will become, but be aware that your cushion may also malt the more you break down the fibres by brushing.

To join the two side, place the two panels together, with the fluffy side in the middle of the sandwich. Double crochet around the edges of the cushion, leaving a gap so that you can turn your cushion right-side-out, and insert the cushion pad. Once inserted, sew up the gap using a large yarn needle.
