- Chain (ch): Yarn over, pull through one loop on hook
- Treble Crochet (tr(s): Yarn over, insert into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have three loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over, pull through remaining two loops.
- Double Crochet (dc(s): Insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have two loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through remaining two loops.
- Slip Stitch (ss): Insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull yarn through stitch and loop on hook

- Now take your tape measure and measure from crown to brim and see if it is close to 5”. We will add one more row, if you’re close to 5” (4.75”). If you’re much shorter than 4.5” you might want to add another round or 2 of treble crochet then proceed to the finishing round
- Finishing Round: Ch 1, working in between each st (not worked into the two loops at the top of the stitch, I am inserting the hook in the space between the posts of two different stitches), dc into every st around, ss into first st, ch 1. Cut off yarn with a tail of several inches

- Yarn: Stylecraft Special for babies (100% Acrylic, 323 yds per 3.5oz)

Instructions
- Foundation chain: Ch 3, insert hook into first ch to make a sl st alternatively create a magic circle.
- Round 1: Working into the center of the circle. Ch 2 (does not count as a stitch here or throughout), work 12 tr into center of circle, ss to first st. (12 tr) Remember the beginning ch-2 does not count as a stitch, your slip stitch is into the first treble crochet
- Round 2: Ch 2, 2 tr into st at base of ch, 2 tr into each st around, join round with a ss to first st. (24 tc)
- Round 3: Ch 2, 2 tr into st at base of ch 2, tr into next st, *2 tr in next st, tr in next st; repeat from * around, ss to first st. (36 tc)
- Round 4: Ch 2, 2 tr in st at base of ch 2, tr in each of next 17 sts, 2 tr in next st, tr in each st to end, ss to first st. (38 tc) We increased by only 2 stitches in this round
- Round 5-8: Ch 2, tr in st at base of ch 2, tr in each st around, ss to first st. (38 tc)

Hi Bellacoco team, i really enjoyed your tutorial as it is easy for a beginner like me to follow. I have a question, my yarn is less chunkier than yours, so after finishing round 8, i only reached around 3.7 inch and the size of the beanie is quite small compare to your video. Will this be a problem? Thanks!
Hi Ling, I’m so glad you enjoyed my tutorial If you are using thinner yarn I would recommend going up a hook size or two if you need to reach the size shown in the video, otherwise the beanie might not fit
Hi Sarah-Jayne, I am 32 weeks pregnant and have been very, very anxious throughout this pregnancy and pandemic. Learning how to crochet has brought me so many calm focused hours and I could not have done it without your tutorials. I have now made a star blanket, a full-sized blanket,flowers and this easy baby beanie. I would like to make a matching hat for my 17 month old little girl. Hi Kirsty, I’m so happy to hear that my tutorials have helped you – crochet is really good at calming the mind I find If you wanted to make a bigger beanie I think the easiest way would be to make more increase rounds: so after round 3, do another round where you make 2 trebles in one stitch, but then make 2 trebles as normal. For the next round, make 2 trebles in one stitch, then 3 trebles as normal. For each round just increase the number of single trebles you are making in between the increases in this way and then continue the pattern as normal. Hope this helps

Hi! I used a larger hook but mine is still coming up short – is there a limit on how many extra rounds we can do to bring it up to size?
You can work as many rounds as necessary before the finishing round to reach the correct size
