Learn to Crochet a Hair Scrunchie – Free Pattern

Pin it now, make later!

This crochet Scrunchie is super quick and easy to make. It’s the perfect stash buster or a quick make for instant satisfaction. The great thing about these scrunchies is that you can customise them to your liking. Today I have used Bernat Velvet yarn because I love the look and feel and think its a little softer on the hair, but of course, you can choose to use any yarn you like!

    PATTERN NOTES

    • Written in UK terms but switchable to US crochet terms below.
    • The pattern can be adapted to use alternative yarns, however you may need to increase or decrease the number of stitches. The most important thing here is to make sure that your stitches aren’t pulling the hair tie too tight.

    Convert Pattern Terms

Here you can quickly switch between UK and US crochet terms. This will make following the pattern easier as all terms will be converted to your preferred version.

    CROCHET TERMS

Chain(s): ch(s): Yarn over, pull through

    CROCHET SCRUNCHIE PATTERN

You will be working around the hair tie as you go, this will mean you will insert your hook around the bobble instead of working into a stitch. It might sound complicated, but trust me, it’s super easy.

Starting with a slip knot on your hook, dc around hair tie, ch 2

Work 65 tr around hair tie, ss in ch-2 from beginning of the round. Tie off

Weave in ends being careful not to pull too tight. I always use the rule of three (see video below)
