the inspiration
Nicola says, “I started to crochet almost 2 years ago now when life threw some challenging obstacles my way. I needed something to focus on that would distract and silence my mind during this time.
This is when my crochet journey started…
I’m sure you can all relate to a time in your life when things have become challenging and extremely overwhelming, your anxiety peaks and then everything soon becomes so hyper inflated.“
“Now the reason I share this because crochet helped me move away from these feelings, it also helped spark up the creativity inside of me that had been squashed over the years.
The first thing I crocheted was the granny square, following Sarah-Jayne’s tutorial on YouTube. I loved the rhythm and repetitiveness of this little square of happiness. I would get lost in the stitch repeat, hours would pass and my worries fell silent in my mind. I wasn’t creating anything in particular just your basic granny square in different colours over and over.“
“Since then my skills have continued to grown, although I don’t shy away from a challenge. I’m happiest when crocheting something repetitive, I find the repetitiveness extremely relaxing. It was in conversation that I mentioned I only create using stitches that make my soul happy which inspired this blog post.
This crochet wall hanging was a mindful creation one evening following a few of Sarah-Jaynes stitch tutorials that I absolutely love or as I like to refer to them as stitches that make my soul happy!“
Stitches That Make My Soul Happy
“I simply grabbed a pile of my favourite yarn colours, a hook and some scissors and made a start, no pattern, no plan I just let my imagination and creativity run away with itself…
The only planning that was needed was checking for any stitch repeats for example the bar stitch needs to be in multiples of two so aside from keeping my foundation chain even that was it! I crocheted away.“
