Learn how to crochet the Solomons Knot stitch with my free step-by-step pattern and video tutorial. The Solomon’s Knot, also known as the Lover’s Knot, is a delicate and airy crochet stitch that creates an intricate open lace pattern, perfect for lightweight projects such as; tops, shawls, lacey scarfs and market bags. Alternatively, you could experiment with this stitch using a chunky weight yarn to make an intricate scarf.

- Hook: 5mm Hook
- Scissors

Terms & Abbreviations
Chain(s): ch(s): Yarn over, pull through loop on the hook.
Slip Stitch(s): ss(s): Insert hook, yarn over, pull through stitch and loop on hook.
Double Crochet(s): dc(s): Insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have two loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through remaining two loops.
Double Treble Crochet(s): dtr(s): Yarn over hook twice, insert into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop (you will have four loops on the hook). Yarn over, pull through two loops (you will have three loops on the hook). Yarn over, pull through two loops (you will have two loops on the hook). Yarn over, pull through the remaining two loops.
Special stitch
Solomons Knot (SK) Pull up a loop to around 12mm (½ in) tall. Chain 1. Insert hook between the first and second loop of the three loops below the hook and complete a double crochet (known as a closing dc).

The Solomons Knot Crochet Stitch: Free Pattern

You are viewing this pattern in UK terms.
Chain in multiples of 4 + 2
Row 1: dc in second ch from hook (skipped ch does not count as st), * 2 SK, skip 3 ch, dc in next ch *, rep from * across. Turn.
Row 2: 5 ch (skipped 4-ch counts as st here and throughout), SK, skip first dc and SK, * dc in next closing dc, 2 SK, skip [SK, dc, SK], rep from * until 1 closing dc rem, dc in closing dc, SK, dtr in last dc. Turn.
Row 3: 1 ch, dc in first closing dc, * 2 SK, skip [SK, dc, SK], dc in next closing dc * rep from * across, working final dc into top of 5-ch. Turn.
Rep Rows 2 and 3 until desired height.
Final Row: 5 ch, * dc in closing dc, 3 ch *, rep from * across, 2 ch (so that you are ending with a 5-ch), sl st into starting 1-ch of previous row.
Fasten off and sew in ends.
