You all know I can’t resist a pastel… so I’m THRILLED to welcome my fellow pastel lover Mary Renji to the blog with this absolutely beautiful shawl design. I’m obsessed with this combination of seafoam and hot pink as it’s perfect for adding some colour back into dull weather days and keeping you cosy in style!
Inspiration
Not only are Mary’s colour choices perfect, I also adore the lace panels that are inspired by one of the world’s most beautiful wonders, The Taj Mahal. So grab your hook and get ready to crochet up your own Wonder of the Wool with Mary’s lovely crochet lace shawl, The Seafoam Shawl.
Mary says, “The pattern is a wonderful mix of lace and geometry. It is inspired by the marble lattice designs that I saw during my visit to see the Taj Mahal in Agra, India a few years ago. The lattice patterns are intricate yet so simple. The scarf looks complex but its super simple and meditative.“

Worried the pattern may be too complex? Don’t be. The lace pattern is easy to master, uses basic stitches that repeat.
Tools and Materials
- Yarn: Any Sport weight or heavy fingering yarn, I used Lang Merino 150 in Seafoam colour, 600 meters (660 yards), 200 grams (this does not include yardage for pompoms). Alternatively, if you struggle to find Lang Merino, you could also use Milla Mia Naturally Soft Merino for this crochet lace shawl.
- Hook: 4mm
- Scissors
- Darning Needle

- The pattern is written in US terms.
- 17 sts x 10.5 rows in dc makes 4”/ 10 cm, tension/ gauge is not critical for this project
- Finished crochet lace shawl size measures approx. 65” x 10” after blocking.
Terms and Abbreviations
- Chain (ch): Yarn over, pull through one loop on hook.
- Single Crochet (s): sc (s): Insert into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have two loops on the hook. Yarn over, then pull through two loops.
- Double Crochet (s): dc (s): Yarn over, insert into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have three loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over, then pull through remaining two loops.
- Chain space (Ch-sp): The space found between two stitches or in foundation chain
- Skp: Skip
- *-*: Repeat for the indicated times.

- Ch 61
- Row 1: Sc in second ch, sc in each sc till the end and turn. (60 sts) The stitch count for the pattern is kept at 60 through all the rows.
- Row 4: Ch3, dc into next 29 dc, 3dc in ch-2 sp, ch1, skp (dc, ch-2 sp, dc), *dc in next dc, ch1, skp (dc, ch-2 sp, dc), 7dc in ch-4 sp, ch1, skp(dc, ch-2 sp, dc)* , repeat ** one more time, dc in next dc, ch1, skp (dc, ch-2 sp, dc), 3dc in ch-2 sp and dc in last dc, then turn.
- Row 5: Ch3, dc in the next dc,ch2,*skp (2dc, ch-1 sp), (dc, ch4, dc) in next dc, ch2, skp (ch-1 sp, 2dc), dc in next 3 dc, ch2 *, repeat ** one more time, skp (2dc, ch-1 sp), (dc, ch4, dc) in next dc, ch2, skp (ch-1 sp, 2dc), dc in each dc till the end. Turn.
- Row 6: Ch3, dc into next 29 dc, *ch1, skp (dc, ch-2 sp, dc), 7dc in ch-4 sp, ch1, skp(dc, ch-2 sp, dc), dc in next dc, * repeat ** till the end and then turn.
pom poms (optional)
Using a medium pom pom maker, make 12 pom poms in total. You are welcome to make as many or as little pom poms as you wish, so I placed 6 pompoms equally alongside either sides of the scarf.

HI. Please would you explain this *skp (ch-1 sp, 2dc). It means 2DC inside the ch-1 sp? Thanks
I would assume this means to skip both the chain 1 space and two double crochets before working into the next stitches, but as this is a guest post you may want to contact the designer to double check. Her email is memmatty@gmail.com
In row 4, is it dc in next 29 sts or 28? I end up with total of 29 sts including the beginning ch3, as opposed to the pattern which expects 30 DC.
