This round-up is designed to be a burst of inspiration to our followers worldwide, so we’ve included crochet tops suitable for both cold and warm weather.

ALL of these patterns are fully size-inclusive. As of January 2021, Bella Coco became a fully size-inclusive blog. It’s really important to me that everyone feels welcome here, regardless of size, age or body type. If you’d like to learn more about that, check out my announcement post here: Size Inclusive Crochet.

Now, let’s have a quick chat about crochet gifts…

Make sure, before you put the time and effort into a crochet gift that the person you are making it for is crochetworthy. It’s time for real talk. Not everyone in your life deserves crochet gifts. From the first moment you pull out your crochet hook and yarn, you’re investing a LOT into what you make.

    cost of materials

There’s the cost of the materials to begin with. But, on top of that, you’re also pouring a huge amount of time, love and care into creating something unique, special and beautiful.

Not everyone will appreciate that and generally the root of that is NOT ungratefulness. Sometimes it’s down to personal tastes, sometimes it’s down to sensory issues and not liking the feel of the materials and sometimes it’s because they don’t appreciate what goes into making a crochet item.

And that’s ok. Let me say that louder, THAT’S OK. Not everyone is crochetworthy and it will save you time, energy and heartache to understand that and make sure that the crochet gifts you are making go to people who love them and appreciate them.

So, how can you make the sure your crochet gifts are well-received?

    Let’s start with some basics:

    • Have an informal chat with anyone you’re planning on gifting crochet to. Find out what colour schemes they like and whether they like glitter, sparkles and all the bells and whistles. Or, if they’re more into simple, classic garments.
    • Take a look at the type of things your intended gift recipient usually wears and buys. Do they favour classics? Or perhaps they’re a walking ball of rainbow colours. Mimicking their personal style is a sure-fire winner.
    • Consider what yarn to use. Some people can’t wear wool, others can’t wear manmade fibres. It’s always better to be sure so you can avoid giving the gift of armpit itches!
    • Make sure you include care instructions with any crochet blankets or garments. No-one wants a perfectly fitting jumper shrinking to doll-sized after a wash.
    • Finally, make sure any baby crochet garments are washable in the machine. No new mum has the time to handwash clothing every time it gets messy!
