The Crunch stitch is a fast building stitch which offers a beautiful texture to any project. The crunch stitch consists of just two stitches which are repeated making it perfect for all skill levels.

    This pattern gives you the basic principles for the crunch stitch, designed to help you create your own projects.

    Convert Pattern Terms

    Here you can quickly switch between UK and US crochet terms. This will make following the pattern easier as all terms will be converted to your preferred version.

    Terms and Abbreviations

    Chain(s): ch(s):Yarn over, pull through

    Slip Stitch(s): ss(s): Insert hook, yarn over, pull through stitch and loop on hook.

    Half Treble Crochet(s):  htr(s): Yarn over, insert into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have three loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through remaining three loops.

    Pattern

    You are viewing this pattern in UK terms.

    Foundation: Ch in multiples of 2 + 2 until you have reached your desired width.

    Row 1: sl st in second ch from hook (skipped ch does not count as st), *htr, sl st in next st, rep from * across. Turn.

    Row 2: 2 ch (counts as htr), *sl st in the top of the htr from the previous row, htr into the sl st from the previous row, rep from * across. Turn.

    Row 3: 1 ch (does not count as st), sl st in first st, *htr in next st, sl st in next st, rep from * across. Turn.

    Rep Rows 2 and 3 until desired height.


    Fasten off and sew in ends.

      Is there supposed to be an DC introduced and on some of this you go from SS HT to SD DT?? Just wanted to make sure

Hi marie151, You can find the written instructions for this pattern on my blog using the following link: https://blog.tcctest.co.uk/crunch-stitch-tutorial/ You are using a slip stitch and half treble crochet throughout. Half treble crochet and half double crochet are different terms for the same stitch (one is British, one is American), I think this may be where the confusion has arisen.
