Sure, Christmas paper and plastic gift bows are nice. But, if you REALLY want to spread some Christmas cheer how about hooking up some cute crochet Christmas wrapping goodies?

Step 1: Put two pieces of pom pom maker together so they nest in each other.
Step 2: Leaving the circle of the maker open, wrap yarn around arch of one half of the pom pom maker. When one half is as full as you wish, cut end of yarn and tuck it under other wraps.
Step 3: Repeat step 2 for other half.
Step 4: Clip the sides together to form a circle.
Step 5: Insert sharp scissors into the gap between the two pieces of the pom pom maker and cut all wraps all the way around the circle. Do NOT open the maker yet.
Step 6: With a new piece of yarn, wrap yarn through the groove between the halves. Pull tightly and tie a few knots. This is securing all the strands together to make the pom pom. Leave a long tail to use when attaching your pom.
Step 7: Open your clips and remove the yarn from the maker pieces. Using your scissors, trim the ends of your ball to shape it.

Crochet Bow Pattern

Foundation chain: Chain 30 (double the expected width)
Row 1: Ch 1, turn, dc in second ch from hook and into each ch across. (30 dc)
Row 2-9: Ch 1, turn, dc in each st across.
*work as many rows as you wish for the height of your bow. More rows means it will cinch more in the middle.
Fold short ends together. Sl st through both layers across row ends to seam the ends together.
Ch 1, and elongate loop. Move this elongated loop over the folded bow and arrange the loop and the seam so that they are at the center of the bow. You can now pull your working strand tight to cinch the middle a little, then use the working yarn to wrap around the middle of the bow as much as you wish. Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Attach your darning needle. Using the needle, secure the yarn by sewing under the center wraps on the back-side of the bow several times. Make a knot if you wish. Fasten off and sew in your end.
Ribbons (make 2)
Foundation chain: Chain to desired length of ribbon.
Row 1: Ch 1, turn, dc in second ch from hook and into each ch across. Fasten off leaving tail to attach to bow.
Double Crochet(s): dc(s):Insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull through two loops (2 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through both loops.
Half Treble Crochet(s): htr(s): Yarn over, insert into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have three loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through all three loops.
Slip Stitch: ss: Insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull yarn through stitch and loop on hook
Treble Crochet: tr(s):Yarn over, insert hook into stitch or space, yarn over, draw up a loop (3 loops on hook), (yarn over, draw through 2 loops) twice.
Crochet Tag and Ribbon Pattern

Make a magic circle
Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1 tr), work 11 tr in circle, pull tail of magic circle to tighten, sl st to top of ch-3. (12 tr)
Round 2: *you will be working stitches in this round in the space between the posts of the tr sts in the previous round. Ch 2 (counts as 1 dc), dc in same sp, *work 2 dc in next space between tr sts; repeat from * around, sl st to first ch-2. (24 dc)
Hang loop: Ch 10, sl st to base of ch on round 2. Ch 1 and fasten off. Weave in end.
You can now customize your tag by backstitching a letter with a contrasting color yarn and your darning needle.
Crochet Ribbon
Decide how wide you wish your ribbon to be. You can also choose your stitch. Different stitches will give a more or less lacy look.
Foundation Chain: Chain 6.
Row 1: Ch 2, htr in third ch from hook, htr in each ch across. (6 htr)
Row 2: Ch 2 (does not count as a st here and throughout), turn, htr in each st across.
Repeat Row 2 to desired length. Fasten off at end. Sew ends together, if you wish.
